The tractor swung past a small rainforest patch we'd put in 2 years earlier; checking on the trees, growth rates, weed infestations. A blue flash from the black apple, a tree I remember planting. The dearest little frog not much more than inch in length. And it was turquoise. There aren't any blue frogs in Australia. Who are you my dear little friend? And where have you come from? And your brassy legs. What a vision. Some say it's probably 'litoria fallax', but I'm more inclined to say "litoria tractoria'. Just have to paint the tractor blue.

stumpy the python
Stumpy lives in this pile of mulch hay. Winter is coming on and I don't have the heart to do what was originally intended for the hay- mulch the newly planted trees by the creek. And so the hay will stay in the shed through winter. Stumpy is not a pet, she/he is a sizeable carpet python that has hung around the shed for a few years. Keeping the rats out of the tractor. Occasionally a rat or two fly out of the tractor when it starts up and sometimes there is a barbeque smell. This can ruin the tractor tour, especially for the vegetarians. Stumpy is missing the end of it's tail; probably a tractor tour mishap but who knows.
I close the shed door; won't be back for sometime. Say a prayer that goes something like 'look after the place Stumpy, you are officially in charge, see you on my return.'
